Flaming Skewers

At the end of my FireSkewers’ effort, I got a call from the Food Source manager at Holland America Cruise Line.

Al Shibibbi had seen my website designs and asked me if I would consider creating a steel skewer ensemble that would roast foods. His chefs had requested a product that could be flambéed at the dining tables. I, of course, said I certainly could create a concept that he could evaluate for the cruise line. I spent nearly one full year creating skewers’ designs, learning about food grade stain- less and the different machine shops that could handle my concepts.

Al sent me a small sketch on a napkin of what the chefs were thinking. Pictured in the center left are two of the resin and steel prototypes I finally created and sent to Al at Holland America. But Holland America needed a completed product to test before they would place a purchase order. We were at a standstill. But I persisted with my argument that I could — and would produce a fine product if Holland America would give me a purchase order.

Well, they finally conceded to my enthusiastic efforts and gave me an order for their fine dining restaurants on all fourteen (14) ships.
